Ski Slope of Zao Onsen
You should try the ski slope in Zao Onsen. There are 4 gondolas, 35 lifts, and 10km downhill course at 800m altitudes. There are 15 slopes and 12 courses.

Ice Monster(Juhyo)
You will be impressed the power of nature by seeing Juhyo, also known as “Ice Monster.”Super cooling snow, which is made by a seasonal wind, hits against trees severely and shapes Juhyo. It is an unique spectacle in the world.
Condition for Juhyo
- Juhyo is built in limited mountains, which is located in the northeastern area of Japan.
- The mountain should have evergreen conifers.
- There are fixed storing wind and super cooling drop water in the mountain.
- The snow should be between 2 and 3m height.
Super cooling water is adhered to a tree and developed.
It is called “Shrimp Tail.”
Growth Stages for Juhyo
- December - Early Stage - It begins an ice coating of super cooling water.
- January - Growth Stage - Shrimp tail is developed.
- February - Golden Stage - It grows to huge Juhyo.
- March - Declining Stage - Juhyo becomes small because of temperate rise.
- April - Collapsed Stage - It destroys by rain etc.
